Start saving your pennies for a rainy or even a scorching hot day – Dubai is building the biggest mall in the world… Mall of the World… for Expo 2020, and it will be the planet’s first ‘temperature-controlled city’.
The Mall of the World will be 8m square feet topped with a retractable glass dome that will allow people to shop the 7km of retail streets whatever the weather.
There will also be 100 hotels, a theme park, a 3m square foot Wellness District, a Cultural District containing theatres like Broadway or the West End and a Celebration Walk modelled on Barcelona’s Las Ramblas.
Currently the world’s biggest mall by leasable space is New South China Mall in Dongguan, China, with 7.1m square feet. Dubai Mall is the most visited retail destination in the world with 75m visitors last year.

Our ambitions are higher than having seasonal tourism. Tourism is a key driver of our economy and we aim to make the UAE an attractive destination all year long. This is why we will start working on providing pleasant temperature-controlled environments during the summer months.
